Notary Route Sheet
Jermaine Fields · Commission #2563256 · built Aug 12, 2026
Go to market as yourself, not Meridian. Your commission is personal and live today. Every card, call and conversation this week says Jermaine Fields, Notary Public, Commission #2563256. Meridian Signing gets bolted on after the FBN files. Waiting on VitalChek to start selling costs you the whole month.
One rule that gates everything: no journal, no notarizations. Gov Code §8206. The moment it lands, you're live — so book Thursday and Friday today.
The thesis
You lose the "notary near me" search today — established shops have the reviews and the map pin. But every fixed-location notary in your radius turns away mobile requests daily, and every business without a notary sends people out the door.
That's your demand. It already exists, it's already frustrated, and nobody has ever walked in and offered to take it.
The unlock: you're already driving. Fifteen minutes between rides is one business visit. Ten drops a day costs you nothing you weren't already spending.
Targets, in priority order
1Funeral homes & mortuaries
Estate paperwork, affidavits, transfer documents. Urgent, emotional, nobody price-shops. Almost no notary markets to them. Start here.

"Hi — I'm Jermaine, I'm a notary public here in Venice. Families sometimes need something notarized on short notice while they're making arrangements. I'm mobile, including evenings and weekends. If it ever comes up, here's my card — costs you nothing, I just bill the family the standard rate."
2Assisted living & skilled nursing
POAs and healthcare directives, constant volume. Most notaries won't do facility signings — which is exactly why they'll keep your card.

"I'm a mobile notary here in Venice. A lot of notaries won't come out to facilities — I do. Powers of attorney, healthcare directives, that kind of thing, usually same day. Who handles that here?"
"Who handles that here?" is the whole script. It gets you past the front desk to the person who actually books it.
3Shipping stores & pack-and-ships
The UPS notary told you 10 a day. He can't leave the counter. Everything he turns away is yours.

"I'm a mobile notary here in Venice. Figured you get asked to travel sometimes and can't leave the counter. Hand those people my card and I'll send anyone who wants a walk-in straight to you."
4Escrow & title offices
Non-loan notarizations constantly, and they already know what you are. Also warms the pipe for signing work once E&O is bound.

"I'm a notary public in Venice — commissioned and bonded. I handle general notary work and I'm ten minutes away if you ever need someone same-day for non-loan documents."
5Bail bonds
POAs and affidavits, off-hours urgency, they pay cash. Nobody else is calling on them.

"I'm a mobile notary, and I work evenings and weekends. If you ever need a POA or an affidavit notarized off-hours, I can come to you."
What to leave behind

Free printing: the Venice branch library has wireless printing. You can't conduct business there, but printing your own cards is just using the library. Half-sheets cut into quarters work fine for week one — the goal is a phone number in their hand, not letterpress.
Do not print "Meridian Signing" on anything yet. The FBN isn't filed. Your own name and commission number carry more weight with an escrow officer anyway — they can verify you on the Secretary of State roster in ten seconds. They can't verify a brand.
Pricing — say one number
| What you quote | What it is |
$75 Single signature, Venice / Santa Monica / Culver City | $15 notarial + $60 travel |
$90–110 Further out, or after 8 PM | $15 notarial + travel |
+$15 Each additional signature | Statutory maximum |
Quote flat, record itemized. California caps the notarial act at $15 per signature (§8211). Travel is uncapped but must be disclosed and agreed before you drive. So say "$75" on the phone — then your journal and receipt break it into $15 + $60. Both things are true and both are required.
The 10 days
Today & tomorrow — journal in transit
- Print 50 cards
- 10 drops off your existing gig routes — funeral homes first
- Nextdoor post as a neighbor, not an ad: "I just got commissioned as a notary here in Venice…"
- Craigslist services post
- Free directories — 20 minutes total, low yield, do it once
- Book Thursday and Friday appointments now, contingent on the journal landing
Day 3 onward — you're live
- Work the calendar
- Call back every drop from days 1–2 — the second touch is what converts
- Ask every satisfied client for a Google review the moment the GBP exists
- Log every job in the journal the same day
Three ways to lose this
- Notarizing before the journal arrives. §8206 violation, and it's your commission.
- Saying "notario." Even repeating a caller's word. §8219.5 — one-year minimum suspension.
- Explaining a document. You verify identity and witness signatures. The moment you advise on content, it's unauthorized practice of law.
